MATTHIAS LOIBNER was born in Graz in 1969. Initially dedicated to the instruments piano, guitar and trumpet, at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts Graz he spent several semesters studying classical composition, jazz composition and choral and orchestral conducting. Since the first time he heard Bulgarian folk music at age 13, he was immediately fascinated by it and gradually began to eplore it analytically and systematically. His expressive style has earned him the title “Jimi Hendrix of the hurdy-gurdy”. He is also responsible for the first recording of Haydn’s works for organ lyre (lira organizzata), investigated the xylophone music of South and East Africa or the loneliness of the lyre in Schubert’s Winterreise. In his very personal music different moods and styles often flow simultaneously into each other.
