BIOGRAPHY

Shake Stew has been hailed as Austria’s flagship jazz project, and not without reason. Bassist Lukas Kranzelbinder and his troupe, consisting of the top class musicians Mario Rom (trumpet), Johannes Schleiermacher (tenor saxophone), Astrid Wiesinger (alto saxophone), Oliver Potratz (bass), Niki Dolp and Herbert Pirker (drums and percussion) deftly create long musical trajectories full of drama and soul. The critically acclaimed debut album The Golden Fang, a memorable  performance at the International Jazz Festival Saalfelden in 2016, and numerous subsequent concerts abroad (e.g. in Mexico, Morocco, Canada, and Germany) quickly made the septet an internationally sought-after formation. The Carinthian bandleader and double bassist represents a modern and highly explosive interpretation of jazz beyond stylistic questions. In 2018 Shake Stew performed at jazzahead!  in Bremen and at  Jazzfestival Saalfelden. Subsequent albums (2019’s Gris Gris2020’s (A)live!, and 2022’s HEAT) have met with equal acclaim.
