“5 Million Pesos” is a monthly concert and radio broadcast series of young jazz in and from Austria – presented by Radiokulturhaus Vienna and the Ö1 jazz department. In June, Valentin Goidinger and his trio X!XU, will be guests in the concert series.
X!XU
The guitarist, Valentin Goidinger, was born in Innsbruck and studied at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz. There he also founded X!XU, with his trio mates Alexander Matheis (bass) and Patrick Pillichshammer (drums). And this band immediately made people prick up their ears: The self-titled debut album, released in 2023, kicks off with an arrangement of Erik Satie’s “Gnossienne” No. 1, before picking up speed full of energy.
In the rest of the program, Valentin Goidinger’s compositions also reveal a happy combination of heart and brain: powerful rock patterns meet jazzy, dissonant harmonies, cleverly choreographed with a rich contrast of groove and tempo changes. It is no coincidence that Goidinger was one of the finalists of the Ö1 Jazzstipendium 2025, where he was strongly recommended with X!XU for a performance in the “5 Million Pesos” series for young jazz in and from Austria!
