Kenji Herbert Trio

With Kenji Herbert, a genuine globetrotter is now enriching the Viennese jazz scene. Raised in Osaka and Kobe, he studied in Basel and Boston before immersing himself in Brooklyn’s bubbling music scene for around a decade. The Japanese-Austrian guitarist has lived in Vienna since 2021, where he presented his new album “A Million Forests of the Fall” in November 2025 as part of the inaugural Open Jazz Vienna festival.

It was recorded with his colleagues Vinicius Cajado (bass) and Lukas König (drums), who will be playing on this evening: Kenji Herbert impresses here with idiosyncratic contrasts between rock-inspired, energetic grooves and reduced, almost meditative sound tableaus, each of which he celebrates with his own unique sound. The verdict: ear tickling!
