BIOGRAPHY

The collaboration between Håvard Enstad (cello and vocals) and Carles Muñoz Camarero (cello, nyckelharpa, and vocals) began in 2013 in an Art Nouveau flat in Barcelona. Over vermouth and home-brewed beer, the two cellists invented their signature fusion of Scandinavian and Catalan folk music. They also weave complex Balkan rhythms, melancholic Jewish melodies, sounds from the Caucasus and Middle East and their own compositions into their eclectic sound. Added to the cellos and nyckelharpa, the voices create a density unexpected for a duo. Their repertoire combines the diverse oral traditions of indigenous musics from around the world, from time immemorial to the present – a style that could be called contemporary folk. Following the albums Lynx (2016) and Cervus (2018), their newest studio album Octopoda was released in 2022 on No Fear Records.
