BIOGRAPHY
Pianist and composer Wolfgang Seligo is very much at home in many divergent musical styles. His original music is influenced by jazz, rock, and modern classical music and driven by a funky and powerful sound from the piano. In various formations, but also solo, he brought his work onto the stage in Europe, Asia, Africa and the United States. He gave concerts in Chicago and Washington, the Forbidden City of Peking, on the Red Square of Moscow, in Morocco, Senegal, Turkey, Poland and in Tehran, Rome, Praha, Vienna, Budapest, Ljubljana and many other locations. Since 2020 he has been chairman of the jazz composition section of the Austrian Composers’ Association (formerly Komponistenbund) and initiated the “Austrian Composers Young Jazz Award” competition, which has been taking place since 2022.
Several solo and trio compositions by Wolfgang Seligo have been gaining increasing airplay on international radio for around half a year. Over the past year, his recordings have been included in the programmes of around 50 specialist jazz and cultural radio stations worldwide.
The radio airplay ranges from regional cultural and independent stations across several continents to renowned public radio platforms. Completely independent editorial teams – including stations in the USA, Canada, France and Shonan Beach FM in Japan – have independently selected Seligo’s tracks for their programmes or, in some cases, directly included them in their playlists. A particular success is his inclusion in the programme of Jazz24 (KNKX Seattle), one of the world’s most widely listened-to digital jazz services with a global reach of several hundred thousand jazz listeners.
In addition to these radio appearances, the artist benefited from a nationwide syndicated broadcast in Australia. Through a local cultural and regional network, his music was broadcast across the continent via more than 20 stations. It seems that Seligo’s ‘Alternative Jazz’ is attracting increasing interest abroad.
