Helene Glüxam – double bass, voice

Trained at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz, where she studied with Peter Herbert, among others, the Viennese double bassist Helene Glüxam has appeared more and more frequently on various stages and in the context of very different bands in recent years: from the Iranian-Austrian ensemble Kurdophone to the Wednesday Night Prayer Orchestra, led by saxophonist Ludwig Bekic.
Since 2021, Helene Glüxam has also been performing solo and has developed her own project: Here she processes influences from jazz, alternative rock, and classical music in an original way, with her high, instrumentally used voice acting as a counterpoint to the low-frequency double bass. Images of nature also serve as inspiration, which is reflected in pieces such as “Wellensturm” (Wave Storm) or “Lichtungen” (Clearings). Helene Glüxam plans to release her debut solo album at the end of 2025, and samples of it will already be heard in today’s “5 Million Pesos” concert.
