Each month, we spotlight up-and-coming jazz artists from Austria as part of the “5 Million Pesos” series — a monthly concert and radio broadcast dedicated to young jazz in and from Austria, presented by Radiokulturhaus Vienna and the Ö1 Jazz Department. For June, the spotlight shines on ELSA.
As part of the series featuring young jazz artists from and based in Austria, singer-songwriter Elsa Steixner and her band ELSA will be guests of Andreas Felber.

ELSA
Vienna-based Elsa Steixner studied jazz and pop singing at the ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem, Netherlands. Together with her German colleagues Julian Bazzanella (keyboards) and Daniel Louis (drums), whom she met during her studies, as well as Jakob Lang (double bass), also known from the Viennese indie-pop band Buntspecht, she founded the band ELSA—to develop her own signature style as a jazz-influenced singer-songwriter.
The second album, “Jump!,” released in 2025—back in Vienna—captivates with stories wrapped in evocative songs that revolve around new beginnings and empowerment, yet also address themes such as farewells and looking back. The lyrics are woven into fresh, accessible compositions that blend jazz, pop, and folk, with the improvised sections adding the finishing touch during live performances.
