BIOGRAPHY

The Wienerlied is alive! And the acoustic duo Die Strottern is not entirely innocent of this: for over 20 years, Klemens Lendl and David Müller have been dusting off the Viennese song so thoroughly in terms of music and content that a local song tradition has been transformed into music that is understood all over the world. Awards such as the German World Music Prize RUTH or the AMADEUS Austrian Music Award bear witness to this.

Klemens Lendl and David Müller began making music together as teenagers at the end of the 1980s. They first became acquainted with old Viennese songs in the mid-1990s, but it was only when they met the Viennese poet Peter Ahorner at the turn of the millennium that they found their musical home in the New Viennese Song. In 2003, they released their first CD with their own songs and since then Die Strottern have explored the fringes of Viennese music on eight further albums. In collaboration with musicians from other genres, from jazz to early music, they are constantly searching for new and contemporary means of expression and themes for the Wienerlied. This has resulted in joint programmes with JazzWerkstatt Wien, Ensemble Mikado, Franui, Hannes Löschel, Christoph Bochdansky, Matthias Schorn, Willi Resetarits, Velvet Elevator, Ramsch & Rosen, Maja Osojnik, Lukas Kranzelbinder and many more.
