DUO VILA MADALENA, consisting of Nikola Zarić (accordion) and Franz Oberthaler (clarinet, saxophone, vocals), creates music that is best described as an exciting journey of discovery. With playful wit and complete stylistic freedom, the duo elevates their sound to a new art form, blending genres and traditions with ease.

The two musicians are free spirits who mix and match styles, weaving together diverse musical influences. Their compositions draw on Balkan rhythms, South American sounds like Brazilian Choro, and a variety of other traditions. From jazz and swing to the melodies of Eastern Europe, flamenco’s fiery passion, and the intensity of tango, they seamlessly incorporate these elements into their music. They even sprinkle in a touch of classical Viennese charm, creating a truly unique sound.

Each song by Vila Madalena ignites a vibrant world music experience, lighting up in different colors with every track. Their dynamic and eclectic style has earned them recognition, including being selected as a NASOM “New Austrian Sound of Music” act for the 2020-21 edition.
