BIOGRAPHY

Jordina Millà is a pianist and improviser based in Austria. Interested in music since her childhood, she obtained a master’s degree in classical piano performance from the CODARTS University of Arts before continuing her studies at the École Normale in Paris. She later encountered Agustí Fernández, who guided her toward improvisation; her current focus lies on free improvised music, contemporary language and multidisciplinary scenarios.

Her 2018 solo album Males herbes made a lasting impact on lovers and critics of improvised music. When Forests Dream, a piano duo album with Agustí Fernández, was crowned the best jazz album of 2020 by the Catalan music magazine Enderrock. Her latest release is the duo album String Fables with double bassist Barry Guy.

In recent years she has collaborated with a number of dance and theater companies, including the Doctor Alonso Dance Company, CieLaroque and choreographer Helene Weinzierl, Iris Hetzinger, Dominik Jellen, and Natalia Jimenez.

In addition to her duo with Barry Guy, current projects include a trio with Mats Gustafsson and Barry Guy, a trio with Vinicius Cajado and Maurizio Takara, the KAMM ensemble (with Gonçalo Almeida, Almut Kühne and Wieland Möller) and the trio MARS (with Núria Andorrà and Sònia Sánchez). In 2023 she launched a new dance and instant poetry project with Julyen Hamilton and Robi Legros entitled “Tide Mountains”.
