BIOGRAPHY

To date, Oskar Haag’s musical career has been something of a fairy tale. After teaching himself guitar and piano, he began writing songs in early 2020, during the first COVID lockdown – and, as it turned out, he was good at it. So good, in fact, that a little over a year later – in July 2021 – he was onstage in front of the Karlskirche at the closing concert of the Popfest Vienna, playing to 500 people. The local press seldom gets euphoric about anything – but Oskar Haag was an exception. and celebrated the then 15-year-old as the “greatest pop talent in Austria“.

The rest, as they say, is history: suddenly, he was the hottest tip in the Central European music industry. He founded an indie label, Lullaby Records, and released his first three singles, “Stargazing”, “Black Dress”, and “The Summer We Need”; all three songs hit number one on the FM4 charts – a first in the history of Austria’s official purveyor of cool on the radio. The singles also brought him airplay in Germany, the UK, and the USA, as did his late 2022 follow-up, an intimate ballad titled “Lady Sun and Mr. Moon”.

Since then, he’s absolved his first sold-out solo shows, several festival appearances, and opening slots with bands like Tocotronic, Thees Uhlmann, and AVEC. Industry tastemakers like Mavi Phoenix, Der Nino aus Wien, and Bilderbuch’s Maurice Ernst have declared themselves fans, and his fan base has grown steadily.

His full-length debut, Teenage Lullabies, was released in 2023 on Lullaby Records; he also received the coveted FM4 Award at the 2023 Amadeus Awards.
