BIOGRAPHY

Sylvia Kimiko Krutz masters the multi-faceted playing of the piano’s black and white keys with fame and energy. In her skilful interpretations of contemporary works, she also elicits a variety of sounds from the interior of the instrument, with or without electronics. All of this is sometimes combined, for example when she interprets Olga Neuwirth’s ‘indidendo/fluido’. In addition, grunting rubber pigs and other toys are also used, such as in Juliana Hodkinson’s ‘When the wind blows’. What Sylvia Kimiko Krutz has in common with all these different compositional approaches are the sensitive arcs of tension that she spans both over short episodes and simultaneously over the entire pieces. In addition to her solo activities, the Hamburg-born pianist, who also studied and now teaches in Vienna, also performs with ensembles such as Ensemble XXI. Jahrhundert and the Lizard Ensemble.
