BIOGRAPHY

Zsófia Boros is a Hungarian-born, Vienna-based guitarist whose work unfolds at the intersection of classical repertoire, contemporary composition, and diverse musical traditions. Her playing is marked by an exceptional sensitivity to tone, space, and narrative, transforming the acoustic guitar into a medium for expansive, atmospheric and deeply expressive sound worlds.
She made her ECM New Series debut with En otra parte (2013), followed by Local Objects (2016) and Il último aliento. Across these recordings, Boros explores a broad spectrum of musical languages – from Latin American and European repertoires to contemporary composition – developing a distinctive voice that balances precision with intuition and emotional depth. Her work has been recognized with first prizes at several international guitar competitions, including the Paganini Competition in Parma, the Concorso Internazionale Val Tidone, the North London Music Festival and the Premio Enrico Mercatali in Gorizia.
As an interpreter and curator of sound, Boros approaches music as a space to enter and inhabit – each piece unfolding as a place, a memory, and a shifting emotional terrain.
