Austrian Artists at splash! 2023

Bibiza

Bibiza raps. Bibiza produces. Everything is created and developed in a DIY manner. Not on his own, but together with the chosen family around prodbypengg, Eli Preiss, Liebcozy, Supergerne and the rest of the swift circle – because everything stands and falls with mutual support. Bibiza doesn’t come from a musical family, and hiphop wasn’t always the No.1 topic in his life. It all started with a guitar and covertracks of well-known artists: Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Cure. With the help of YouTube tutorials, Bibiza started making his first beats and rapping at the age of 14. His new home and connecting point to the local scene were the Rap Battles at the Viennese club The Loft. With a lot of love, the first tracks and videos were created in 2018, and in 2019 the first album “Copypaste” was released. 2020 followed not only the second album “Bis Dato” but also 2 EPs, which included collaborations with Mavi Phoenix (“?!”) and SLAV (Combo EP). As of July 2, Bibiza has released eight singles in 2021 alone, which will be compiled in a mixtape. In winter 21, it came to the debut of the “Indie Bibi” – according to the motto diversity instead of simplicity appeared “Lebe wie ein Hippie” since then there is Bibiza also at selected shows in full live band to experience.

Eli Preiss

Untainted is the best way to describe the style of singer Eli Preiss. After a series of EP releases and her debut album “LVL UP” in 2022, the casual Austro-soul-singer, made up of 2000s references and (lucid) daydreams, culminates in hits such as “Wein in Wien,” “Noch Down?” or “Nimmasatt,” which fall somewhere between Retro House, 2-Step or Trap&B. It’s about the past and the future, feminism and emotions, longing and desperation: the singer’s universe from the Vienna New Wave stands for the holistic nature of contradiction at splash! 23.

Gola Gianni

Gola Gianni, a rapper and producer from Vienna, is known for bringing contemporary US influences through his music to his hometown. With his off-beat flow heavily influenced by Michigan rap, Gola’s minimalist beats and lightheartedness are his trademark. He began rapping in German instead of English after taking advice from Yung Hurn. Gola is currently one of the most exciting newcomers from Vienna, where his hood stories and wisdom about the never-ending pursuit of the good life are created with casual ease.

Kitana

Between Balkan folk and Aggro Berlin, the Austrian street poet has started to take an interest in rap and draws a strong connection between the intensity of braggadocio and biography on tracks like “Humble.” This means that the bragging and vulnerability of her rap-influenced appearance are not mutually exclusive but complement each other on both neoclassical sample and contemporary trap arrangements. Kitana, a rapper with flow, heart, and mind – and at the splash! 2023 a (still) hidden gem.

Verifiziert

The Vienna singer Verifiziert masterfully charges the banality of everyday life with meaning. Her pop short stories with a home-studio charm turn the mundane into a work of art and laziness into a lifestyle, which happened for the first time on album length with “40100” in 2021. In the imaginative setting of bedroom R&B, lo-fi house, and kitschy bass, Verifitziert walks through the triviality of her thoughts with a soft voice and invites you to her daydreams.

3310

A new rap wave from Vienna is rolling towards Ferropolis at full speed: kittyyy, poppi, schellack and their producer loeschelbua have already built up solid hype in their Austrian homeland with songs like “Vermissen” and “Selbstbewusst”. The ambition?: A new wave and plenty of energy for German rap, which Vienna should fervently impose on all hip-hop map material. The crew will play their first splash! show in 2023. Come see for yourself.
