
The Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs (BMEIA) is launching the call for applications for the tenth edition of the young music talent programme “The New Austrian Sound of Music” (NASOM) for the period 2027 to 2028. Ensembles, bands, and musicians are invited to apply for this funding programme by Monday, 9 March 2026.

This BMEIA funding programme supports young Austrian music creators, or those living in Austria, with performances abroad through a specially established programme. The selected ensembles, bands, soloists (female and male) will be supported in their international performances—within the available possibilities—by the Austrian Cultural Forums and BMEIA embassies.
WHO CAN APPLY?
Musicians with Austrian citizenship, and all ensembles, bands, soloists (female and male) permanently resident in Austria who are actively working in the following genres: Contemporary Music, Jazz/Improvisation, Pop/Rock/Electronic, World/New Folk Music, and Classical.
The maximum number of members in an ensemble or band is limited to four people.
Eligible to apply are music creators born after 31.12.1991. For trio and quartet formations, one ensemble member may exceed the age limit. All other ensemble members must be born after 31.12.1991.
SELECTION OF ENSEMBLES AND SOLOISTS
Selection in each genre is made by an expert jury consisting of promoters (female and male), journalists (female and male), and university professors (female and male).

Submissions are accepted exclusively in digital format directly to mica – music austria.

- Photo material (300 dpi) for download
- Press clips via email or as download
- Examples of past performances
- Date of birth of ensemble members (scan of an official ID)
- For non-Austrian music creators, proof that their centre of life is in Austria (e.g. residence permit, registration confirmation, etc.)
- Contact details of the ensemble’s point of contact: address, email, mobile number
- Label (if applicable; not required) including contact details and contact person
- Booking agency (if applicable; not required) including contact details and contact person
- Management (if applicable; not required) including contact details and contact person
