On September 17 and 18, 2026, the Musiktheatertage Wien, in collaboration with mica – music austria/Austrian Music Export, will host the Austrian Music Theatre Day to foster international networking.
Focus on the Voice
This year’s Austrian Music Theatre Day (AMD) will focus on a central musical theme: the use of the voice in music theater. This raises questions from a wide variety of perspectives: Are vocal students prepared to interpret contemporary music theater works, and if so, how? How is the voice used in current works—whether in its purely physical form or enhanced by electronic means? How well do composers understand the possibilities of the human voice and its various registers? What influence does the collaboration between composers and singers have on the creation and development of works?
What is AUSTRIAN MUSIC THEATRE DAY?
The AUSTRIAN MUSIC THEATRE DAY music theater conference was launched in 2015 as part of the Musiktheatertage Wien festival and has been held in cooperation with mica – music austria/Austrian Music Export since 2018.
This event offers local music theater professionals networking opportunities and the chance to exchange ideas with national and international presenters. Austrian producers and artists can present their work to international presenters in the form of pitches and connect with them in person. In addition, the event encourages networking within the national scene.
The MUSIKTHEATERTAGE WIEN festival is dedicated to new music theater and explores new performance formats and approaches to it in a variety of ways.
