Waves Vienna 2013 and Waves Bratislava 2013 are now history – as in the past two years, Waves can look back on another very successful festival edition. Once again visitor figures increased, whereas the number of participating delegates at the music conference even doubled.
Looking at the announced figures, the organizer team around Thomas Heher and Franz Hergovich can definitely draw a positive balance for the just ended third edition of the club and showcase festival Waves Vienna. With 12,900 visitors the concert line-up was once again better attended than the previous year (+19 % compared to 2012). A total of 137 acts played at 16 different local venues, including the Flex at the Danube Canal, Odeon Theatre, Fluc and Pratersauna. A bunch of times concert doors had to be closed due to venues and off-locations packed to the rim with happy festival goers.
This year the Waves Music Conference also had a significant increase with 811 delegates, which amounts to a 56% plus! In addition to topics such as “Women in the Music Industry in Eastern Europe” or “Direct-to-Fan-Marketing” and the presentation of the focus on Austria at the next Eurosonic Noorderslag festival in the Netherlands, the conference especially focused on the music markets of this year’s two guest countries Slovenia and Belgium.
For the first time Waves Vienna also invited visitors to attend the Waves Film Fest in Vienna cinema Topkino with featured films such as “Welcome To The Machine”, “Schlagerstar” and “Oh Yeah, She Performs”. Again, the organizers were pleased about a high visitor frequency.
Last but not least, the organizing team was also able to score with the inclusion of Bratislava as a further festival location. As part of the plan to further enhance the current Waves slogan ” East Meets West “, the sister festival of Waves Vienna with nearly 3,000 visitors in seven Slovakian venues was a huge success.
To fire up the anticipation for 2014, the date for next year has already been officialy announced: Waves Vienna 2014 will take place from the 2nd – 5th of October 2014. See you again in 2014!
