BIOGRAPHY

Jazz bassist and composer Gina Schwarz studied jazz-bass and accordeon at the Jazz Conservatory Vienna, Bass at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and at Berklee College of Music, Boston. Among other awards she is the winner of the Austrian “Hans Koller Preis“ – Side(wo)man of the year 2007 and winner of “Best Performances of the Year“ in “All About Jazz – New York Best of 2007“.
After several successful projects including, “Woodclock” (feat. Jim Black), “Jazzista”, “Airbass (co-production – Richard Oesterreicher, harp)” and “Schwarzmarkt”, bassist, composer & bandleader Gina Schwarz is more than ready to explore her artistic boundaries even deeper with “Pannonica” – her current main project. Billed as “Porgy&Bess Stageband“, Pannonica collaborated with many international guests including: Karin Hammar (SWE), Julia Hülsmann (D), Camila Meza (CL/USA), Sylvie Courvoisier, (CH/USA) Angelika Niescier (POL/D), Ingrid Jensen (CAN/USA) and Marilyn Mazur (DNK).

In 2020 & 2021 Gina Schwarz was composer in residence at Multiphonics Festival, Cologne, documented on another album as a bandleader on “Way to Blue” (2022).
Gina Schwarzʼ last three records were nominated for jazz prizes in Austria and Germany. More international collaborations include: Playground4, Muriel Grossmann Quartet, Angelo da Silva Duo, Heinrich von Kalnein Trio with Ramon Lopez. Gina Schwarz was featured as a bass player and composer at Winter-Jazz Köln 2021. Since 2011 she teaches bass at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna.
