
New compositions for mixed ensemble of Piano Duo with String Quartet (two pianos or piano, four hands with two violins, one viola, one violoncello) are being sought, organised by the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. Submission deadline: March 10, 2027.
The primary aim of this competition is to encourage the creation of new chamber music works. The winning composition will be included as a compulsory piece in the repertoire of all piano duos admitted to the competition. It will be premiered during the final round of the “Piano Duo” category, together with a selected string quartet from the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, at the 13th International Competition “Franz Schubert and Modern Music” in February 2028.

The competition welcomes composers of all nationalities and stateless persons.

Prize
The composer of the winning work will receive a prize of € 5,000*.
Additional benefits for the winner:
- The composition will be included as a compulsory piece in the competition repertoire. All piano duos admitted to the competition will be requested to prepare the work for performance in the final round.
- Performances of the work during the competition are planned to be recorded.
- Jury-preselected compositions will be added to the library of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.
