BIOGRAPHY

Buntspecht consists of six musicians from Vienna, writing playful lyrics for mature adults – and for adults that never grew up. Buntspecht’s concerts can aptly be described as a musical stroke of luck. Neither head, belly, nor feet can escape the rousing energy of this young band from Vienna. Blending gypsy swing with indie pop and Viennese folk music, theirs is a music that celebrates life in all of its forms — the melancholic moments as well as the ecstatic ones.

After their promising debut “Großteils Kleinigkeiten” [“Mostly Little Things”] on  Phat Penguin Records which they recorded in 2018 in a garden shed in Hütteldorf [a Viennese district,]  in only a couple of days together with Klaus Tschabitzer, they were able to develop the new songs in the recording studio over several months. The result is called “Draußen im Kopf” [“Outside in the Head”] and was released on Phat Penguin Records in May 2019. In summer 2019 they performed at the 40th International Jazzfestival Saalfelden

Bunspecht consists of Lukas Klein (vocals, guitar, piano), Florentin Scheicher (melodica, trumpet, vocals), Roman Gessler (saxophones, flute), Jakob Lang (bass, vocals), and Lukas Chytka (cello).
