BIOGRAPHY
Reinhold Schinwald studied electrical and audio engineering at Graz University of Technology and composition with Beat Furrer and Pierluigi Billone (graduated with distinction) as well as music theory with Christian Utz, Clemens Gadenstätter and Georg Friedrich Haas at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. He attended master classes with Peter Ablinger, Mark Andre, Chaya Czernowin and Steven Takasugi and was invited to participate at the Akademie Schloss Solitude in 2013 and matrix12 – Experimentalstudio-Academy of the SWR Freiburg. Reinhold Schinwald has received grants and scholarships by the Austrian Federal Chancellery of the Arts, and the SKE-Fonds. He was Composer in Residence at ZZM, the 14. Komponistenforum Mittersill and the VCCA (USA). His compositions have been commissioned by Wien Modern, klang21, Hoerfest Graz, cercle and premiered by musikprotokoll im steirischen herbst, 14. Komponistenforum Mittersill and Kulturzentrum Minoriten Graz. His chamber opera „fremd körper“ was premiered at the taschenopernfestival 2011 in Salzburg. Various ensembles including oenm, ensemble SurPlus, Ensemble PHACE, Ensemble Schallfeld, guts’n’faders, Ensemble Reconsil Vienna have been performed his compositions.
Apart from his work as a composer Reinhold Schinwald regularly performs electroacoustic works and compositions using live electronics at numerous festivals and venues. As assistant of André Richard he performed Luigi Nonos opera “Al gran sole”. Since 2015 Reinhold Schinwald works as Tonmeister
at the Salzburg Festival. In 2016 he founded buro lunaire together with Gina Mattiello. Together they search for new ways in expanding approaches to art and work at exploring and presenting new forms of contemporary music that promote collaborative production processes. Reinhold Schinwald, born in Salzburg, lives and works in Vienna.
