With The New Austrian Sound of Music (NASOM), the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs (BMEIA) will launch the tenth edition of its two-year support program for young musicians from Austria in 2027/2028. The initiative aims to raise the international profile of promising acts from a range of genres and support their sustainable development.
The New Austrian Sound of Music (NASOM) is a two-year support program of the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs (BMEIA) for young musicians, and will be held for the tenth time in 2027/2028.
The worldwide network of Austrian cultural forums, embassies, and consulates general provides an effective platform for presenting promising musicians from Austria internationally across genres and supporting their long-term development.
Since its launch in 2002, the program has helped numerous musicians who are now well established to gain access to international stages. In doing so, it has not only supported promising careers but also raised Austria’s profile worldwide as a country of music with a vibrant, contemporary, and culturally diverse music scene.
The selection of the young music acts was once again carried out in cooperation with the Austrian Music Information Center (mica), the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw), the Mozarteum University Salzburg, the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (MUK), the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG), the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz, Austrian music promoters, and music journalists.
The tenth edition of the program once again brings together artists who impressively represent the diversity, innovative spirit, and ongoing development of Austria’s music scene across the genres of Classical, Jazz, Global, Contemporary Music, and Pop.
